Left Field

About us

Left Field is a new independent news, opinion and analysis media platform that launched in August 2026 – reporting the stories the mainstream media won't touch, the way they won’t tell them.

We go behind the headlines to uncover what's really going on – the social, cultural, political and trade union stories that rarely get a hearing in the establishment press. Organised as a collective, we cover grassroots movements and politics as they happen, tracking progress and flagging the strategic questions that will shape the future of the left.

We don’t just report the news – we place it in context, connecting it to the wider, ongoing story of the left and grassroots and community organising in the UK and beyond. Our aim isn’t just to inform readers; it’s also to make them think and find out more.

Through original journalism, interviews, opinion and debate, we give a platform to organisers in communities, workplaces and campaigns. We want Left Field to reflect the full diversity of talent across left politics and working-class communities and we’re building it collaboratively – publishing news, reviews, comment and contributions from the people who make up our community.

Left Field was founded by a like-minded collective of activists, and it’s run by the people who take part in it. We have no rich backers, and we never will. Every penny of our funding comes from people and organisations who believe in what we do.

We’re also fully committed to transparency in independent media. That’s why Left Field is seeking membership of the Independent Media Association and will register with the independent press regulator, Impress.
